Article: A Powerful Voice to Government For Change

A Powerful Voice to Government For Change

A Powerful Voice to Government For Change

Submissions to government raise remote Anangu voices so that real community experience can influence policy. They ensure government decisions are informed by local voices, cultural knowledge. Submissions play an important role in strengthening Anangu self-determination and visibility and support long-term change for communities.

This year NPY Women’s Council put forward nine submissions and five joint submissions. Submissions are completed in consultation with directors and include their thoughts on matters important to them regarding policy and advocacy.

All of NPY Women’s Council’s submissions reflect our core advocacy priorities:

  • Tri-state collaboration
  • Cross-border justice
  • The cost of poverty
  • Bilingual education
  • The age of criminal responsibility
  • Youth justice reform

These interconnected issues underpin every area of our policy work, as meeting basic needs is essential to tackling the root causes of disadvantage and are priorities for the region.

This project was partially funded by a variety of in-kind support provided to NPY Women’s Council alongside the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
