About Us

Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

NPY Women’s Council is seeking an experienced and culturally responsive Team Leader – Uti Kulintjaku Women’s Team to join our Ngangkari Program.

The Ngangkari Program supports ngangkari (traditional healers of Central Australia) to continue their work in communities, clinics and hospitals, promoting and strengthening emotional and mental health and wellbeing.

Uti Kulintjaku is an award-winning initiative that supports mental health understanding through Anangu-led approaches. Working alongside ngangkari, senior Anangu women, mental health practitioners and communities, the program encourages deeper conversations about mental health, healing and wellbeing.

About the Role

This fixed-term position is being offered as maternity leave cover until 30 June 2027.

The Team Leader provides cultural, operational and strategic leadership for the Uti Kulintjaku Women’s Team. You will support the effective delivery of community-led mental health and wellbeing initiatives grounded in Anangu knowledge systems and cultural practices.

You will provide day-to-day guidance and support to project staff and cultural leaders, coordinate workshops, bush trips and community-based projects, and work closely with senior Anangu women and communities to ensure projects remain culturally grounded and responsive.

You will also work collaboratively with the Ngangkari Program Manager and broader team to support program planning, reporting, funding proposals, evaluation, administration and continuous improvement.

About You

We are looking for someone with demonstrated experience in team leadership, preferably within a cross-cultural or community environment, together with a strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and experience working respectfully with Aboriginal people.

You will bring strong organisational, project management, communication and reporting skills, as well as the ability to support and mentor staff with diverse experiences and roles.

Knowledge of APY languages, or a commitment to learning, is highly valued. You will also need to be willing to travel to remote communities and participate in bush trips. Relevant qualifications or extensive experience in mental health, wellbeing or a related field are required.

What We Offer

The position offers a salary of $109,016.82 – $117,743.14 per annum, negotiable based on experience, plus 12% superannuation, 5 weeks’ annual leave with 17.5% leave loading, generous additional leave entitlements, salary packaging benefits and a retention bonus.
