Tjulyata Tjilya
Director
Tjulyata was born in Amata and grew up in Pukatja community in the APY Lands.
She worked as supervisor in the craft room, then moved to working in Amata School as a Anangu Support Worker (ASW). Working as an ASW encouraged her to do further studies to become a teacher, a position she held at the school from 1999 to 2024. She also is a former Chairperson of Amata School.
“I am always interested in education in community. I have always spoken about what is best for our kids. In Amata there are a number of people with disabilities, and I like to see them and tell stories with them. It makes them happy to have visits. Sometimes they go to paint at the arts centre and I paint there too," she said.
Tjulyata is a member of Tjala Arts, the art centre in Amata community.
Since 2010, Tjulyata has been working as a bible translator and a volunteer on Amata School Council.
Tjulyata was elected as a Director of NPY Women's Council in 2024.
Terms served at NPY Women's Council:
- 2024-2026 (Director)
NPY Women's Council is grounded in, and continues to live and work on, the sovereign Lands of the Arrernte people, and the Aṉangu and Yarnangu people - the rightful custodians of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara Lands.
