Who We Are
Leadership

Peggy Naylon
Director
Peggy was born in Charleville, QLD. When she was five, she moved with her family to South Australia where her family then worked on stations on the Birdsville track.
One story she remembers was about the coming of the 20th century. The station manager sat down with my father to tell him which way they were going to communicate – English or in Language. Her father decided that they were only going to speak English, which is why she does not speak her mother or father’s language. They were Wangkangurru and Pitjantjatjara peoples. Peggy says it hurts her heart that she does not speak her language. But she is proud that everyone today in the NPY communities are learning two-way language.
When she was 16 years old, she secured her first job. She worked with Anangu, including Nura Ward (dec.), but left to start a family. She has three sons and one daughter. Peggy and her family relocated to Western Australia, where she spent twenty three years learning more about culture in the Kimberley. Peggy worked as a teacher’s aide in several schools in Western Australia.
In 2018, she decided to move back to the Northern Territory to Mutitjulu Community. She found work opportunities in Yulara at the Ayers Rock Resort.
Peggy currently works for Aṉangu employment services in Mutitjulu and assists with translation. Her passion is to work with youth and young people in the community, to build them up as strong leaders. Peggy is the current chairperson of Mutitjulu Community Aboriginal Corporation, a Director of Maruku, proxy member for Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park, Chairperson of Mutitjulu Community store, Chairperson of Walkatjara Arts and she is a member of the Wankangurru people.
