Maureen was born in the bush just outside Warakurna near where the famous Giles weather station is located. She grew up with her family travelling between Docker River and Warburton, her family eventually settled in Warakurna and Maureen went to school in Kalgoorlie.
Maureen got married and had 5 children, this kept her very busy raising her family in Kanpi on the APY lands. During this time, she worked at the Murputja School and the Kanpi Store. Around 2002 she began working with NPY Women’s Council in the Tjungu (aged and disability) team because she is passionate about helping old people. She worked there for a number of years; she has now stepped down from this work.
Maureen is a former weaver and during her time as an artist with Tjanpi Desert Weavers, her work was display with the ‘Hunting’ animation which was displayed in Canberra and was aired on ICTV. She enjoys working as an artist in the Warakurna Art Centre. This passion motivated her to join the board of WA Art Centre as a current board member she speaks up for artists in the Ngaanyatjarra lands.
