Northern Territory Indigenous Education Review Submission

In March 2014, NPY Women’s Council had the opportunity to provide a submission to the Education Minister Honourable Peter Chandler of the Northern Territory Government regarding a review of Indigenous Education in the Northern Territory. NPY Women’s Council Directors believe that education is vital to the development and growth of young people. The organisation acknowledges its role in providing knowledge and personal development in areas that relate to its service delivery and advocacy areas and has identified education and youth leadership as a key advocacy area for 2014-2018.

As stated by former NPY Women’s Council Director Daisy Ward 2012:

“Education is the key. Young people can become leaders and teach other people. Young people need to respect the culture and ensure two way learning. We need to keep two ways culture, don’t let it go because of education, you’ve got to still have your culture”.
