Chronically underfunded and in jeopardy of closing; remote Youth Programs are not "just basketball and football," they help children from remote communities, who are among the most economically disadvantaged in Australia, aim high. Youth programs play an important role in preventing youth offending. They “do everything”, NPYWC youth programs offer case management, support young people to access traineeships and jobs and are often only extra-curricular opportunities for young people to learn, upskill and access sport. Youth Programs are an integral and essential part of life in remote Australian Community living.
The programs give young people a sense of belonging and play an important role in teaching self esteem and team building skills for adult life, outside of 'normal' school hours.
The kids of Papulankutja and Mantamaru (Blackstone and Jameson) need to believe in a future with hope like every other Australian child does.
