Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC welcomed as Patron of NPYWC

Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council is honoured to welcome Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, as our new honorary Patron.

Her Excellency has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to community, social justice, reconciliation, and work striving to achieve better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Her leadership reflects values that align closely with the work of NPY Women’s Council and the priorities of Anangu and Yarnangu minyma tjuta (all women) across the NPY lands. 

This patronage recognises the importance of Aboriginal-led work and the strength, knowledge and leadership that has existed amongst NPY women for over 45 years. Together and in partnership, we look forward to a continued future of minyma tjuta leading change for better days.

NPY Women’s Council Chairperson Margaret Smith said the organisation welcomed the opportunity to continue this work alongside Her Excellency.

“We welcome Sam Mostyn as Patron and thank her for standing with minyma tjuta. We look forward to having the Governor-General's support as we continue to listen and work closely with women, families and communities across the tristate NPY region. We do this work with kindness and with one heart, because it is about the future of our region.”

The Governor-General said,

Having long admired and celebrated their sharing of the deep history, strength, vision and leadership of Anangu and Yarnangu women, I am proud to stand alongside the Women's Council as Patron in their enduring commitment to supporting minyma tjuta families and communities across the NPY region. NPY Women’s Council teaches with wisdom, generosity and care, and I look forward to journeying with them and learning from them as they shape a future strong in connection, culture and language for generations to come.”
