Growing Future Leaders
The Youth Service brought together 10 young women from five remote communities: Finke, Imanpa, Mutitjulu, Docker River and Kiwirrkurra, for an important growth opportunity at the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Academy in Darwin.
With funding from the Foundation for Young Australians Youth Action and Wellbeing Grant, the Youth Service worked with schools and senior community members to select young women to attend. They were supported by Youth’s Anangu Support Workers to travel to Mparntwe then fly to Darwin, ready to step into a week designed to build leadership, confidence and connection.
Throughout the Indigenous Leadership Program, the young women took part in hands-on activities, team challenges and cultural exchanges that pushed them outside their comfort zones - in the best way possible. They tried new things, developed their leadership skills and discovered how much they are capable of achieving.
By the end of the week, the change was visible: the participants had stronger voices, more confidence, and a growing sense of what leadership can look like in their own communities. This program was another step in supporting the next generation of Anangu leaders.
