About Us

Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Council was founded and is still led, governed and directed by women from the NPY region. It was created to give a voice to women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border regions of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Today, we continue to provide progressive, innovative and evidence-based work in service delivery, advocacy and support.

About the Team

The Tjungu Team (meaning ā€œtogetherā€) provides support, advocacy, and case management to people with disabilities, elderly people, and their families.Ā The team works collaboratively with communities to ensure people can remain connected to family, culture, and country while accessing the support they need.

About the Role

As a Disability Project Officer, you will work in a malparara (side-by-side) partnership with an Anangu colleague to support people with disabilities across the NPY region.

You will coordinate services, provide advocacy, and support individuals and families to increase independence and participation in community life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate support services, case management, and community-based assistance

  • Work closely with families, carers, and communities

  • Liaise with health services and external stakeholders

  • Support children and adults with disabilities and their families

  • Maintain accurate records, reporting, and data collection

  • Contribute to community development and service improvement

About You

You are passionate about supporting people and working in community-focused environments.

You will bring:

  • Experience in disability services, community development, or human services

  • Understanding of challenges facing Aboriginal people with disabilities in remote areas

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment

  • Organisational and case coordination skills

  • Willingness to travel to remote communities

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in disability, community services, or related field

  • Current driver’s licence

  • Criminal History Check & Working with Children Check

  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

  • Ability to travel and work in remote communities
