In Wingellina the youth program is still evolving. The new YDO started at the end of last year; each week she works to put on the best activities for the community and is always open to suggestions and ideas.

Click here to see some of the things we do:

Basketball and Football: Our boys and girls play in mixed teams with some fierce competition at the basketball courts and footy oval each Tuesday.

Softball: The Kungkas and Minymas alike are keen softball enthusiasts. Every week we meet to practise skills, play games and generally have a good time with all the ladies and girls together.

Bush trips: This is a time when the elders in community teach the young people about bush tucker, traditional hunting and cooking and tjukurrpa. We have a good feed, play games and sit around the fire till the sun goes down.

Movie Nights: Each Friday night we show a different movie in the community hall for the whole family to come and enjoy. If anyone has any films or music they would like to share they can bring them along too.

Swimming: The whole community get involved in a weekly trip to Pipalyatjara for a good cool down in the pool, games and seeing friends and family. The kids are well and truly tuckered out by the time we get home to Wingellina on Saturday night.

Healthy Cooking: Soon to come once we have set up use of the school kitchen and stocked up on supplies. We will be teaching the young people to prepare simple, healthy and tasty meals for the whole family.

Kungka/Wati days: We have some budding hair stylists in Wingellina and they share their talents on Kungka/Wati days with hair-cuts, colourful dyes and cool new styles. We also have some relaxation with face masks, foot and hand beauty treatments, nail painting and body scrubs and lotions.

Art Projects: We are working with the community to plan a big art project which could include murals on community buildings or decorating the community hall. Something collective and exciting for all the young people to get involved in and show everyone who we are here in Wingellina.
