Words for feelings

The ‘words for feelings’ products were created by the Uti Kulintjaku Project – a mental health literacy project of Ngangkari Program.

Uti Kulintjaku means ‘to think and understand clearly’ in Pitjantjatjara.

We believe that if people can find the words to express their feelings, then they are better equipped to ask for the help they need.

The ‘words for feelings’ map is an illustrated poster, helping people find the right words to express different feelings. The A2 poster is printed in both Pitjantjatjara and Ngaanyatjarra.

The ‘words for feelings’ conversation cards, in Pitjantjatjara and English, are designed to be used as tools by health professionals, workers, and families as prompts to assist people with talking about their feelings, thoughts and wellbeing.

They may also be used as a two-way language resource for learning the vocabulary of emotions.

Some cards have one word/phrase while others have multiple examples to show there are different ways to express the same feeling.

The pack of 48 cards can be used in conjunction with the Uti Kulintjaku Words for Feelings poster.
