Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council is a progressive community service organisation that provides a range of programs to women, children and their families. Our work spans across 350,000 square kilometres of Central Australia and is critical to building and maintaining a better future for all Anangu communities within the region.

Atunypa Wiru Minyma Uwankaraku Service is a domestic and family violence support and advocacy service for Aboriginal women and children living in the NPY region.  The service is informed by a holistic and relational understanding of violence which acknowledges the key role of family and community relationships in working effectively with Indigenous clients.  The service provides holistic case management, and facilitates group work within a community development framework for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The role of Legal Educator is to increase domestic violence legal knowledge and capacity of the DFVS team. Specifically, the role is responsible for working alongside caseworkers to facilitate client agency within various aspects of the legal system. In addition, the role will work within the Community Programs Team to produce and deliver culturally appropriate educational materials relating to DFV and the legal rights of women and children living in the NPY region.

It is not a requirement of this role to be a practicing solicitor. You are not required to provide formal legal advice.

You will have knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal women and children who experience domestic violence in remote communities. You will also have understanding of, or the ability to become familiar with relevant law for the NT, SA, WA and Federal jurisdictions. In addition, you will have demonstrated experience delivering a community education program.
