NPY Empowered Communities (EC) is an alliance of Aboriginal partner organisations whose members represent Anangu families and communities from across the region. The EC Secretariat is the regional backbone organisation responsible for the design and implementation of EC in the NPY region and to support all Anangu tjuta in this important work.

Empowered Communities is auspiced by Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council, a leading community service organisation that provides a range of programs to women and their families. Our work spans across 350,000 square kilometres in the cross border region of Central Australia, and is critical to building and maintaining a better future for all Anangu communities within the region.


We are now recruiting for a Project Officer role for NPY EC’s Emerging Leaders program. The Emerging Leaders program aims to build pathways for young leaders into leadership and governance roles within local communities, councils and organisations.

The Project Officer will work closely with the Engagement Officer and the Executive Manager to develop and deliver the Emerging Leaders program and is responsible for overall project budgeting, delivery and reporting, and along with the Engagement Officer, for the logistical and practical aspects of program’s recruitment and delivery including monitoring, evaluation and adaption.


The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Community Development or related human services, or extensive relevant experience. You will also have experience working in community development with Anangu (and/or Aboriginal people in a remote setting) and demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and good working relationships in a variety of settings.

You will have good written and verbal communication skills across diverse groups, from Anangu communities, staff and management to government and other non-government agencies.

You will be provided with a comprehensive orientation program as well as a generous remuneration package. We also provide travel allowance and the use of a company vehicle when travelling remotely..
