SOLID
We stand against proposed changes to NT child protection laws. We are concerned that the proposed changes will result in more Anangu children being removed from families, culture and communities which are integral to their wellbeing and safety.
NPY Womenβs Council (NPYWC) oppose the proposed plan by the NT Government to change the βCare and Protection of Children Act 2007β. We call out the Finocchiaro Government on their intention to make such significant change without consulting Aboriginal Leaders, affected communities and Aboriginal Community Controlled organisations.
Current laws provide protections for Aboriginal children in care, including placing them with family or kin and close to country, however a βspecial and exceptional circumstanceβ provision would be added under draft legislation.
"Family must always come first, family need to be spoken to first and it should always be up to the family to decide. " Margaret Smith, NPYWC Chairperson

Please delete if "not cool". It's a painting I bought off Maureen Limbriari when I was on my first placement as a Registered Nurse at the Tennant Creek Hospital in 2004. Every time I look at it I have absolutely beautiful memories of Maureen, her laughing eyes, her "joie de vivre", her humility, her honesty. Her resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship. Beautiful memories. A beautiful person. I share this to celebrate her. I think she was a Papunya girl.
Gorgeous girl

NPY Women's Council does amazing work sharing cultural knowledge, wellbeing across remote communities and ensuring connection to Country, language and story remains strong. Racism creates structural inequalities that impacts on everyone and tries to present as humour when in fact is purely mean and misses the point.

What a great pic and what a great thing for these kid's/teens everybody deserves to experience the ocean. When I first started teaching I took around 25 Aboriginal student's on an excursion to La Perouse in Sydney I allowed them to wade in the water, I wasn't supposed to let them, when we got back to the school the Principal had a go at me, I said how can you keep blackfullas away from water π
Wow. I bet seeing the ocean for the first time would be just incredible. I’m lucky to have always lived close to the ocean. Love it. But to see it first time after only living out west. Would be wonderful. Enjoy. But know it can also be dangerous. Love love to you all ππβ€οΈ♥οΈ
