The Cross-Border Carer Respite Service provides accessible information, respite care, equipment and other support suitable to the needs of carers and family members for whom they provide care, who reside in the 26 Aboriginal communities of the cross-border region of South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Assistance is provided to carers of family members who are frail and aged over 50 years, have dementia, have dementia and challenging behaviours, young people aged under 50 with moderate, severe or profound disabilities and people with a terminal illness in need of palliative care.

The Service provides responsive respite care in the recipients community, sets up individualised packages for people in urban settings, makes bookings for residential respite, contracts personal care attendants, and is a partner with Frontier Services in a small short-term respite facility in Alice Springs providing contract care in a Territory Housing property.
